The charges come after £25k of suspected cannabis and cocaine was seized yesterday


Police investigating drugs criminality linked to East Belfast UVF have charged a man after searches yesterday.

During an operation in the Beersbridge area of the city, suspected cocaine and cannabis with an estimated street value of £25,000 was recovered.

The 38-year old man has been charged with possession of a Class A controlled drug and possession of a Class A controlled drug with intent to supply.

The charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Afterwards, Detective Inspector Maguire of the PSNI said: “The possession and supply of drugs within communities should not, and indeed will not, be tolerated.

“Today’s arrest, and drugs’ seizure, reflects our ongoing commitment to safeguarding local people.

“I’m keen to thank the community for their continued support and would encourage anyone with information, or concerns, to contact us on 101. Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
