bomb accused Dublin man appears in court charged with attempted murder of PSNI officer in Derry

Bomb was found under the vehicle of a serving police officer in Derry in 2015

A man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a PSNI officer in 2015.

Kieran Maguire (33) of Kippure Park in Dublin appeared at Londonderry Magistrate’s Court via video link after he was apprehended on a European Arrest Warrant yesterday.

The charges are in connection to an incident where an off-duty police officer found an explosive device attached to the underside of his car in Eglinton, Co Derry, in June of that year.

A PSNI detective said he believed he could connect Maguire to the charges of attempted murder and possession of explosives with intent to endanger life.

The prosecution signalled their intent to merge Maguire's case with that of a co-accused on the same incident and Maguire will appear again on May 19.
