An 11-year-old boy has been rescued after falling down a manhole in Dungannon, Co Tyrone.

The incident happened yesterday evening at around 7pm yesterday evening at a Sainsbury's petrol station at The Oaks Centre on the Oaks Road in the town.

It is understood the boy suffered only minor injuries and was conscious when he was rescued.

It was reported two fire crews attended the scene and used harnesses and breathing apparatus to retrieve the boy from the four-metre-deep manhole.

The boy was taken to Craigavon Area Hospital for treatment to his injuries.
