A whopping 13,000 fans are expected to attend the Uefa Super Cup final between Chelsea and Villareal on August 11 at Belfast’s Windsor Park.

The decision to allow so many fans in was made after IFA, Uefa and the Northern Ireland Executive held talks.

It was also agreed that travelling Villareal fans will not be expected to self-isolate when they arrive in Northern Ireland.

At one stage Uefa chiefs thought about moving the game to Istanbul in order to compensate the city after the Champions League final was moved to Porto in Portugal.

While fans at football matches in Northern Ireland have so far been restricted to 2,000, the match between the winners of the Champion’s League, Chelsea, and the Europa League, Villareal, will see much larger numbers flood through the turnstiles in Belfast.

However, upon arrival at the stadium, all ticket holders must show proof that they have been double-vaccinated before they are allowed to enter.
