Young female pedestrian badly injured in incident involving van in Co Waterford

The road was closed overnight ahead of a forensic collision examination this morning

A forensic collision examination is due to take place this morning at the scene where a pedestrian was badly injured on the R671 at Ballymacarbry, Co Waterford.

The young woman was rushed to CHI at Temple Street in Dublin where she is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries following the incident involving a van at around 4.30pm.

The driver of the van was unharmed.

The road was closed overnight ahead of a forensic collision examination this morning. Local diversions are currently in place.

“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic collision on the R671 at Ballymacarbry, Co. Waterford this afternoon,” gardaí said.

“The collision occurred at approximately 4.30pm and involved a van and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a female (youth) was later taken to CHI at Temple Street in Dublin where she is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries."

Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who were travelling on the R671 between 4.25pm and 4.40pm and who has camera (including dash cam) footage, is asked to make this available to gardaí.
