
garda probe Woman rushed to hospital after suffering serious injuries in attack in Co Clare
A woman was in a critical condition in hospital last night after being attacked in Ennis, Co Clare.
The incident happened in the Markets area of the town at approximately 6pm.
The woman was taken to University Hospital Limerick where her condition was described as critical.
A man was arrested by Gardaà and is currently detained in Shannon Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
A garda spokesman has appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
"Gardaà investigating an assault in The Market area of Ennis on January 28,2021 are appealing for witnesses.
"At around 6.20pm Gardaà were alerted to the assault at the Market, Ennis. A woman in her late 20s was taken to University Hospital Limerick with what is described as serious injuries.
"A man in his mid-30s was arrested a short time later and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Shannon Garda Station.
"Gardaà are appealing for anybody who may have witnessed this incident or were in the Market area of Ennis between 5.30pm and 6.30pm to contact them.
"Gardaà are also appealing to any road users, particularly those with camera footage, to contact the Incident Room at Ennis Garda Station on 065 6848100 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111."
