A woman remains in Garda custody this morning following the murder of another woman named locally as Mary Bergin, who was in her 80s, in Dublin yesterday.
Ms Bergin was found dead at a house on Seville Place at around 11.50am.
Another woman, who is well-known to the victim, was later arrested on suspicion of murder.
She is being quizzed by gardai this morning who are not believed to be looking for anyone else in connection with Ms Bergin's death, which senior sources say is "most likely linked to mental health issues.
A post-mortem is due to be carried out today.
Gardaí were alerted to the tragedy when the female suspect was observed acting in an an "agitated state" by people in the locality
The suspect was not previously known to gardaí.
A local woman told the Sunday World she was shocked to hear the sad news.
"To hear something like this happen to a woman in her 80s is terrible," she said.
Mary, also known as Maura, was known for being very involved with the church and was a great help in the community.
Another local was quoted as describing Ms Bergin as “an angel”.
Gardai have said they are continuing to "investigate all the circumstances" following the murder and have appealed for witnesses who might be able to help their investigation.
“Gardaí attended the scene of the incident at approximately 11,50am,” they said.
“A woman, aged in her 80s, was located deceased inside the property with fatal injuries. Her body remains at the scene.

"The scene is currently preserved and a technical examination will be carried out by the Garda Technical Bureau. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem will be conducted later today.
"A female aged in her 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to this incident. She is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Store Street Garda station.
"Investigations are ongoing."
