Ireland is set for a week of wind and rain as the mild weather conditions leave for good.

Today will see the last of the last of the settled weather with low cloud and some patchy rain with temperatures reaching highs of 12 degrees.

But tomorrow will see heavy rain and some strong gusts approach the country from the west and Wednesday is promised to be a complete washout.

And according to Met Éireann, the mild weather we have enjoyed over the weekend is over for now.

“Today and tonight, we will have similar conditions that we had over the weekend, so it will be mild with outbreaks of rain,” forecaster Eimear Flood told the Sunday World.

“It will become a bit drier overnight so Tuesday will start dry but there will still be outbreaks of drizzle with some bright spells.

“However, there will be a marked change in the weather from Tuesday evening and into the night and Wednesday morning.

“A spell of heavy rain is moving in from the west late afternoon tomorrow and, by tomorrow evening it will have spread across the country.

“Wednesday is looking to be a very wet day, with widespread rain and strong winds in parts.

“It doesn’t look so bad on Thursday as we hope the rain will clear overnight and will remain dry but very cold as a cooler air mass comes in.

“That will replace the mild conditions that we had over the weekend, which is typical for this time of year.”
