mask rant Wexford shop staff applauded online after ripping up Gemma O’Doherty 'legal notice'

Staff of a shop in Wexford have been applauded online for their brilliant reaction after they were confronted by prominent anti-vaxxer, Gemma O’Doherty. 

In a video that has been widely circulated, and apparently recorded by Ms Doherty herself, staff at Freeman’s Oylegate convenience store face down the conspiracy theorist as she attempts to serve “legal notices” on them.

As O’Doherty records her experience in the shop, she claims that she will be taking legal action against them for allegedly “breaking the law.”

“I want to leave some information for you because I hear you're abusing customers who won't wear it (a mask),” O’Doherty states. “You're breaking the law.”

As she makes her way through the shop she stops at a counter and tells a male member of staff that she wants to leave some legal notices because, “I hear you're abusing people who choose not (to wear a mask). You need to know the law because you could be sued,” she adds.

However, the man replies: “I shouldn't think so.”

As she continues to harangue the staff, masked members confront her with a notice that clearly states that videoing is not allowed in the shop.

Outside the shop a staff member then rips up the “notices” as O’Doherty insists “this is going to be presented to a judge”.

The staff member then retorts, “can I give you your rubbish back please”, as she continues to rip up the paper.

Standing back from the shop, O’Doherty continues to record staff as they stand at the door while claiming that she was “just defending a mother who was thrown out”.

“They are breaking the law, and they''ve just torn up legal papers, so we got them on video doing it,” she repeats.

“Everyone I want you to expose these people for what they are.”

A staff member at the store told sundayworld.com they didn't want to comment today but in a series of social media messages it’s clear whose side people are on.

“I know the staff at Gala in Oylegate, nicer people, you couldn’t meet,” one person has written.

“Nice to go in and know you will be protected from anti-maskers.”

Another adds: “So proud of all the staff for showing that woman off your property. Thank you also for trying to protect your customers during this horrific pandemic. You are legends.”

“Guys, ye are absolute legends for giving that witch her marching orders…the cheek of her to call ye unhinged."

“I want to fly home to come visit you guys to say well done and thank you directly!!” another declares.

“Will be making you my coffee stop shop on the way to Dublin tomorrow. It's a bit nearer to home than I'd normally go, but I'm happy to support anyone who puts the run on that horrible woman O'Doherty,” another adds.
