CervicalCheck campaigner Vicky Phelan has thanked a mysterious well-wisher who left a touching message for her on her favourite beach.

Vicky, who is back home in Ireland from her clinical trial treatment in the US which she hopes will prolong her life, revealed the beautiful gesture on her Instagram page.

Under a picture of her sitting on the beach at Doughmore, the mum-of-two she has written: “So....I am still quarantining. I have my five day Covid PCR test tomorrow so fingers crossed all will be well and I will be able to move around more freely.

“I am getting down to my favourite beach, Doughmore, for a daily walk when it is quiet (which I am entitled to do before the Covid police start in on me!) Here are some pics from two different days. The weather has been great here. Today was absolutely gorgeous.”

She adds: “My husband, Jim, discovered this painted rock with a lovely, personalised welcome message for me at the Surfers Entrance two days ago. I have no idea who painted it for me but if anyone knows, please DM me. I would love to thank the artist. Jim brought it home to me. THANK YOU, whoever you are, for such a thoughtful gift.

“This evening, I came home from my walk to find this amazing picnic hamper with a full family size fish pie, homemade brown bread, nuts, cookies and chocolate truffles from my friends at @trumpdoonbeg

“THANK YOU to the staff at Trump Doonbeg for such a thoughtful, delicious gift which we thoroughly devoured. The kids absolutely loved the cookies. We look forward to being able to get back up to you for lunch in the near future.

“Thank you to everyone for the lovely messages. I can't keep up with them all at the moment because I am focusing on spending time with my kids but I will get there...

"More to come once I am Covid free.”

Last week, Vicky arrived home after spending six months in the US undergoing treatment.
