Two 'seriously injured' after crash involving lorry in Swinford, Co Mayo

Two people have been “seriously injured” after a late-night road crash in Co Mayo.

The incident took place on the N5 in Swinford just before 12.30am this morning, Wednesday, February 9.

A car and an HGV truck collided on the stretch of road between Charlestown and Swinford.

Two of the car’s passengers were seriously injured during the collision.

A man, aged in his 70s, was taken to Mayo University Hospital and is in a “critical condition.”

A woman in her 50s was transferred to Beaumont Hospital where her condition is described as serious.

The driver of the car is also receiving treatment in Mayo University Hospital for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

The N5 road is currently closed between Swinford and Charlestown and traffic diversions are in place.

The services of Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested this morning.

Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any person who was travelling on the N5 between Charlestown and Swinford last night between midnight and 1am and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage, is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
