Two people arrested after €100,000 worth of cannabis seized during raid in Kildare

A man and woman have been arrested by Gardaí in Kildare following a seizure of €100,000 worth of suspected cannabis.
They were arrested at the scene of a search at a house in Athy on Friday.
The pair arrested are currently being detained under Section 2 of The Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Kildare Garda Station.
The raid took place as part of investigations targeting organised crime groups in the Kildare area.
The search was carried out by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), the Kildare Divisional Drugs Unit and the Revenue Commissioners Customs Service.

During the search, a package containing suspected cannabis herb with an estimated value of approximately €99,200 was seized by Customs officers.
"Gardaí arrested a male and a female at the scene and they are currently being detained under Section 2 of The Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Kildare Garda Station.
Investigations are ongoing," a garda spokesperson said.
In a separate statement, a Revenue spokesperson said: "As part of an intelligence led operation targeting organised crime groups operating in the Kildare area, Revenue officers seized almost 5kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of almost €100,000. The seizure was made following a search, under warrant, of a premises in the Athy area."
