Gardaí are probing an aggravated burglary in Sligo town on Saturday night that left two men in hospital.

A group of men forced their way into a house in the Ballinode/Hazelwood Road area around 8pm and assaulted the occupants.

They were brought to Sligo General Hospital but their injuries are not thought to have been serious.

One of the lines of enquiry is that the perpetrators had travelled to Sligo from Donegal.

Gardaí say they are interested in two vehicles, a white BMW with a Novice Plate ‘N’ affixed and a black Opel Astra with a CE registration, that were seen in the vicinity.

They are also asking anyone who was in the Ballinode/Hazelwood Road/Short Walk areas on Saturday evening between 7.30pm and 8.30pm who may have noticed any suspicious activity to contact them.

“Gardai are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred at a residence in Sligo Town on Saturday, November 6, shortly after 8pm,” gardai said.

“Two men, both aged in their 20s were taken to Sligo University Hospital to be treated for their injuries.

“No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.”
