Two men arrested over death of Ian McDonnell who tried to stop car theft released

The two men, both aged in their 20s, had been quizzed by gardai after being arrested on Wednesday, February 16.

However, they were released without charge last night, gardai said.

Mr McDonnell died days after he tried to stop his car being stolen at his workplace on January 23.

The tragic dad-of-three (50) was at the Ozone Cars dealership on the Robinhood Road in Clondalkin, where he worked as manager, when he intervened to try to prevent the grey-coloured Volkswagen Passat being driven away.

Mr McDonnell ended up on the bonnet as the car drove along the Robinhood Road and he was then found on the road at around 6.15pm with serious injuries.

He was then taken from the scene by ambulance to Tallaght University Hospital but died the following Friday evening.

Gardai said this morning that a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“Investigations are ongoing,” gardai added.
