Gardaí arrested two men after they drove a stolen car and set another vehicle on fire in Co Carlow on Sunday night, 23rd January.

The incident is being treated as an act of “suspected criminal damage by fire” by gardaí.

Shortly before 9pm on Sunday, gardaí received reports of a car in flames outside a house in the Ballinabrannagh area of Carlow.

The fire was put out by local fire services and no injuries were reported.

Two men fled the scene in an “offending vehicle” which was observed on the Naas Road (N7) travelling towards Dublin just after 9.30pm.

The car was stopped by Gardaí and the men, aged in their 20s, were arrested.

They are currently being detained at Carlow Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The offending vehicle, which was reported stolen in the Castleknock area in December 2021, was seized for technical examination.

Investigations are ongoing.
