Horror smash Two killed and one seriously injured in three-vehicle road crash on N33 in Co Louth

It's understood three vehicles were involved in the collision

Gardai in county Louth have confirmed that two people have died and another person is seriously injured following a road traffic accident.

A fourth person was also injured in the horrific crash.

Two cars and a jeep were involved in the collision on the road between Ardee and the M1 motorway at around 8.30am.

The tragic accident occurred on the N33 Ardee link road at Richardstown in Dunleer.

A man in his early 50s who was the sole occupant of his car was killed when his car collided with a second vehicle. His body has been removed to the mortuary in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where a post mortem will take place.

The driver of the second vehicle, a man in his mid 30s also died in the collision. His remains have also been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. The passenger of the second car was removed from the scene to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.

The car also struck a third vehicle and the driver of the car was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda with non life threatening injuries.

The road remains closed this afternoon, while traffic diversions are in place. Meanwhile, the scene is to be examined by Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí in Drogheda are appealing for any witnesses or for anyone with information to come forward. They are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the M1, or on the Ardee Link Road at Richardstown this morning, to make this footage available to Gardaí.
