Two people who were arrested in Clonmel, Co Tipperary by gardaí following the discovery of €18,000 worth of suspected drugs and a number of weapons are due to appear before Youghal District Court this morning at 10.30am.

Both men who are in their 30s have been charged while another man in his 20s and a woman in her late teens who were also arrested as part of the operation have since been released.

Gardai said a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

All four had been arrested as gardai, targeting suspected organised crime and the illegal sale and supply of controlled drugs, launched the operation at 7am.

They conducted a search of ten houses in Clonmel that netted €18,000 of suspected cocaine, cannabis herb and amphetamines. Gardaí also found two suspected imitation firearms and an assortment of weapons such as slash hooks.

Gardai said all the suspected drugs will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

“The operation was conducted by gardaí from the Clonmel District Drug Unit with the assistance of local uniform and detective Gardaí, the Tipperary Divisional Drug Unit, Armed Support Units and Regional Dog Unit,” gardai added.

“Members of the Defence Forces also assisted Gardaí in carrying out a number of the searches.”
