garda raid Two arrested as over €300k worth of drugs and six handguns seized in Westmeath


Garda have arrested two men and seized €301,000 worth of drugs and six handguns in Co Westmeath.

Officers made the discovery during searches of a residence in Mullingar this morning and yesterday evening.

During the course of this search, gardai recovered €245,000 of suspected cocaine and €56,000 of suspected heroin.

Gardai carried out another search of the residence this morning where six handguns were seized.

The handguns will be sent to the Ballistics Unit for analysis.

Two men, early 30s and late 20s, were arrested at the scene.

They are both currently detained at Mullingar Garda Station under drug trafficking legislation.

The search follows a lengthy surveillance operation targeting persons involved in the sale and supply of drugs in the Midlands area.

Investigations are ongoing.
