Tributes paid to teacher Lynne Freeman who died while sea swimming in Greystones

The mum-of-two, who was in her 50s, got into difficulty along with her two friends while they were swimming on Saturday afternoon

Tributes have been paid to local schoolteacher Lynne Freeman who died while sea swimming in Greystones at the weekend.

The mum-of-two, who was in her 50s, got into difficulty along with her two friends while they were swimming at the North Beach in Greystones on Saturday afternoon.

Her body was taken to Loughlinstown Hospital in Dublin for a postmortem.

A second woman was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital and discharged later that day.

The third woman was treated by paramedics at the scene.

On her RIP.ie pages it states that Ms Freeman of Windgates, Greystones, Co. Wicklow, and formerly of Delgany National School and Ravenswell Primary School, Bray, Co. Wicklow, (died) tragically.

“Daughter of the recently deceased Margaret Freeman,” it reads.

“Remembered with love by her family Julian, Sophie and James, her dad Eric, brother Andrew, godchildren, extended family including the Freeman and McCormick families, wide circle of friends and colleagues.”

A Funeral and Thanksgiving Service for the life of Lynne will take place at 11am on Thursday, April 28, in Christ Church, Delgany, followed by burial in Redford Cemetery, The Grove.

In the condolences section one person has written: “Lynne was such a caring and supportive teacher and had a warm and engaging nature. She will be missed. Sincere condolences to her family, and in particular, her Delgany National School friends and former colleagues.”

Another added: “Heartbreaking, May God give you all strength at this terrible time.”

One person said Lynne “was a great colleague, friend & all round good person. Cannot believe she is gone. May she rest in peace.”

“Lynne was a great teacher, a lovely person to work with she will be greatly missed,” another has said.
