TRIBUTES have been paid to a father-of-two who lost his life in a tragic house fire in Roscommon on Friday night.

Named locally as John Nolan, the body of the deceased man was discovered shortly before midnight by fire personnel responding to a call out at his home in Ballyleague.

It’s understood Mr Nolan, who was in his 60s, was alone when the fire broke out.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the blaze but the man was later pronounced dead.

The scene has been preserved for examination and gardaí said foul play is not suspected

Cllr Mark Casey said the two parishes of the area were in shock at news of the tragedy.

“John would have been a nice quite man who had a friendly word for everyone he talked to.

“This is such a desperate tragedy coming so close before Christmas.

“I want to express the deepest condolences of the two parishes to John’s family and to commend the emergency services for the speed and professionalism with which they responded.”
