Sarah’s father, John, told her funeral at Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel: “I never thought I'd have to do this, I thought her wedding day would be the only speech I would be making for her.

“She was born on Christmas Day in 1998 and what a surprise she was. My own mam and dad only found out on Christmas Eve.

“Me and Michelle were very young. We stuck together through thick and thin and two boys, and we didn't expect to be doing this. From that day on we dedicated everything to the kids.

"The two of us, we just have each other and our kids, everything else went on the back burner. She was just beautiful, she was our little princess. She was such a thoughtful, caring, kind-hearted girl.”

Speaking of Sarah and her mother’s relationship, he added: “They weren't only mother and daughter, they were best friends.”

Meanwhile, in a social media post, Dublin GAA Fans posted: "Could we all light a candle in memory of Sarah Mullen who suddenly passed away on Christmas morning and who will be laid to rest tomorrow? Another tragic loss for our GAA community.

"Sarah played camogie with Good Counsel GAA Club and was a former captain of their team. RIP."

A spokesperson for Lourdes Celtic FC wrote: "The club would like to send its condolences to the Mullen family on the passing of Sarah. Sarah's brother Ben plays for our U18s squad.

"As a club we would like to send our thoughts and prayers to Ben and his family at this sad time. Rest in Peace Sarah from everyone at LCFC.’

A spokesperson for Sarah’s team, Good Counsel GAA, said: "The news broke yesterday of the sudden and untimely passing of former player Sarah Mullen.

"As a club we offer our sincere condolences to Sarah’s family and friends. Sarah was captain of our Féile team in 2012 and to all who knew Sarah know how loved she was. To her former team-mates we offer our condolences."
