Tributes have been pouring in for a toddler who was tragically killed after being struck by a car in a driveway last week.

Rowan Duster Bennett Lawn, 18 months old, was rushed to hospital shortly after 5pm on Tuesday following the accident in Tralispean, near Skibbereen in Co Cork.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he sadly passed away.

The community in West Cork are now paying tribute to the “beautiful” young boy online, with many sending their condolences to Rowan's heartbroken family.

One woman said: “Deepest sympathies to all, on the sad passing of your beautiful little boy Rowan. May the lord comfort you and help ye all to carry ye through this sad time. Rest in peace little boy.”

An anonymous message reads: “Sincere sympathy on the loss of your beloved son and brother Rowan. He will be welcomed into heaven with the angels by his side. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”

A mother offered some words of support for bereaved parents Amy and Joe and brother Nye, writing: “My condolences on your loss, we are never prepared or expect them to go before us so young, but when the unimaginable happens we are at a loss to find a way through, and yet each day comes and goes and we in time go with them and eventually we start breathing again and find comfort in little things.

“Memories of happier times support of family and friends and the one connection with your little boy that will never be broken, love.”

And another Skibbereen mum added: “So, so sad for you all. What a beautiful little boy - I'm sure he was very treasured. Hopefully these treasured memories will, in time help ease your pain.

“Know that Rowan and all of you are in so many of our thoughts and prayers. God bless you all and rest in peace, beautiful boy.”

A local family said: “We cannot imagine your pain and our hearts are broken for you. Please know that the whole community are supporting you but we do not know what to say to you. Please accept our deepest condolences.”

Rowan’s funeral arrangements have yet to be announced, while a postmortem took place on Wednesday.
