The funeral of tragic stabbing victim Shane Murphy is to take place on Saturday. 

The 27-year-old who died at his home in the early hours of last Saturday morning after he was stabbed to death will be laid to rest after a service in Church of Our Lady and St John, Carrigaline.

According to RIP.ie, Shane, of Carrigaline, Cork died on March 26, tragically at home.

“Shane, beloved son of Weeshie and the late Marie (nee O’Brien), dear brother of the late Mark. Sadly missed by his loving family, relatives and friends,” it adds. “May he rest in peace.”

Shane will be reposing at Fordes Funeral Home Old Waterpark Carrigaline on Friday (1st) from 4pm until 5pm.

Requiem Mass on Saturday at 11.30am in Church of Our Lady and St. John, Carrigaline will be followed by afterwards to St Mary’s Cemetery Passage West.

Shane was pronounced dead at the scene of the fatal attack following a frantic 999 call.

His 75-year-old father, Weeshie Murphy was also seriously injured during the incident and remains in University Hospital Cork in stable condition.

The pitch and putt community in County Cork later launched a fundraiser to help with Shane’s funeral costs.

Frank Dineen and John Walsh who launched the GoFundMe page said that the young man was one of the "greatest [Pitch & Putt] players of his generation."

“This page is a small expression of solidarity with the Murphy family and an attempt to help defray funeral costs.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Weeshie and family and friends at this time. May Shane rest in peace.”

The page has now closed to new donations with more than €11,000 raised for the family.

On Monday morning, Shane’s brother John Murphy (42) appeared in court charged with murder.

He is also charged with the attempted murder of his father, Weeshie Murphy.

John, with an address at Seaview, Carrigaline remained silent during the hearing.

He was remanded in custody to appear again via video-link before Cork District Court on April 4.
