RIP Adam Mc Cormick

The 14-year-old boy who tragically lost his life on Monday after being airlifted to hospital when he got into difficulty in Hollywood Lake on Sunday will be buried on Friday.

Adam Mc Cormick of Cabra, Threemilehouse, Co Monaghan died “peacefully, alongside his family, following a tragic accident” his death notice states.

It adds that Adam, who is predeceased by his uncle Gary, cousins Ciaran and Liam Hagan and his great-grandfather Mickey Mc Kenna, will be laid to rest alongside his uncle, who died in a horrific car crash in October 2006.

“Adam will be forever missed and always loved by his heartbroken Mum Aoife, his grandparents Jeanette, Niall & Eugene, his uncles Brian, Christopher & Conor, his great-grandparents, relatives and his wide circle of friends,” the notice on RIP.ie says.

Adam's funeral procession will leave his grandparents' home (Jeanette & Niall) Cabra, Threemilehouse, on Friday, July 30 at 2.40pm to arrive at St Mary's Chapel, Threemilehouse, for 3pm Funeral Mass.

Adam will be laid to rest beside his uncle Gary in the adjoining cemetery.

Adam’s uncle Gary was killed alongside John McQuillan, 27, Ciaran Hagan, 22, Dermot Thornton, 21, and 19-year-old Brian O’Neil in the horror smash that local councillor Paudge Connolly said had “devastated the community all those years ago”.

“I recall it quite well,” Cllr Connolly said. “It was one of those unspeakable tragedies that any community would find very difficult to cope with.

“And now, for this second tragedy to hit the same family, you know, you have to bear in mind we’re talking here about a rural community where most people in the North Monaghan know each other and they have friends and family all over.

“The communities are greater, they are bigger and have more connection and there’s no question or doubt that the entire community’s heart will go out to the family.

“And this also comes on the back of the death of Brendan Og O Dufaigh and so it really brings home to people in North Monaghan the sense of tragedy at this moment.

“This funeral will be a heart breaking affair,” he added. “And I expect it will bring back memories too. Obviously people are aware of this second tragedy to hit the same family and it makes it all the more poignant for the whole community.

“There are no answers. All you can do is sympathise with people.”

The sense of shock among the community is also evident in the numerous message of condolences left on Adam RIP.ie page.

One reads: “Sending love and deepest condolences to Aoife, Janette, Chrissy, Conor, Brian and all who loved Adam. May his beautiful young soul Rest in Peace. I'm so sorry that you are suffering yet another tragic loss. Xx”

Another adds: “We are heartbroken to hear of the tragic passing of Adam. Sincere condolences to Aoife, Janette, Christopher and all his family and friends. May Adam rest in peace.”

One other person has offered “deepest sympathy to Aoife and the Mc Cormick and Mc Kenna families on the sudden death of Adam. He is always in your heart. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May he rest in peace.”
