IRELAND’S new singing sensation, teenager Michael Maloney is still on a high after wowing the country on last night’s Late Late Toy Show.

The 14-year-old is back home in Ballina this afternoon with mum Sandra and although he has put the guitar down for the moment he is still buzzing from the thrill of performing with his hero Dermot Kennedy.

Michael said that appearing on the show to perform a version of Kennedy’s ‘Giants’ was a dream come true but to then turn around and discover his hero was signing alongside was almost overwhelming.

“I wasn't too nervous coming on, as the set was just so magical and fun," he told Sunday World.

“I was just delighted and happy to be singing away but then I hear Dermot's voice and turned around and there he was!

“My mind just went blank, to be honest, it was one of those moments I’ll never forget.”

Michael’s dedicated the song to his dad Emmet who passed away three years ago.

Michael’s mum Sandra said Emmet was a talented man who was a well-known musician in Ballina and further afield.

“He played with everyone," Sandra said. “And he was so talented. He loved entertaining people. Music runs through the family, many of Michael relatives, his grandmother and other family members are all very musical and they all play all sorts of instruments.”

Michael was still coming to terms with the experience and revealed that the “ brilliant” RTE people had another surprise in store for him when he came off set.

“They brought me into the VIP room where I met Dermot properly and they handed me a signed guitar," he added.

“I couldn't believe it, I really didn’t think that night could get much better.”
