A male in his 30’s has become the tenth arrest as part of an ongoing investigation into corruption at the Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board (KWETB).

Detectives of the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau arrested the man in Kildare this morning.

He is currently being detained in Naas garda station, under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

The man has been arrested for the offence of Conspiracy contrary to Section 71 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006, as part of the ongoing 'Operation Lakefront' investigation.

The investigation came on foot of suspected corruption at KWTEB, after a 2015 audit of financial statements found serious irregularities.

The audit noted concern about procurement, project cost overruns and propriety matters, as well as “excessive” expenditure at a five-star hotel and golf resort.

Today’s arrest is the tenth since 'Operation Lakefront' began, and the investigation is still ongoing.
