Make hay while the sun shines would appear to be the advice from the forecasters as the last of the summer makes it presence felt for the next few days.

Met Eireann says temperatures will hit 20C today while the next two days will see spells of sunshine and warm weather.

However, with an Atlantic front set to bring rain showers and much cooler temperatures on Monday, Ireland faces more unsettled conditions from next week onwards.

Today will be dry with sunny spells, particularly over the southern half of the country, Met Eireann said, while it will be cloudier further north, with some patchy drizzle in northern coastal counties.

Cloud will increase from the west and outbreaks of rain and drizzle will develop tonight, especially over the western half of the country and across Ulster.

Friday will be mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of light rain or drizzle, mainly in northern and western areas.

The best of any bright or sunny intervals will be in the south and southeast and it will be warm and humid with highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees.

A mild, humid and mostly cloudy Friday night will see patchy drizzle, before a warm, humid and mostly cloudy Saturday.

“There'll be a good deal of dry weather, but a little patchy drizzle in places,” Met Eireann said. “There will be some bright intervals also. Highest temperatures will be between 18 to 21 degrees with light to moderate southerly breezes."

Persistent rain will develop in the west on Sunday and will spread eastwards across the country through the day.

It will be heavy at times but will clear eastwards through the evening and early night with some heavy showers.

Temperatures will range between 17 and 20 degrees with moderate to fresh southerly winds, although Monday will be a noticeably cooler and fresher day with a mix of sunny spells and occasional heavy showers.

Temperatures will dip to between 13 and 16 degrees with moderate west to southwest winds.

“There'll be further rain or showers at times on Tuesday and Wednesday and the weather looks like continuing unsettled for the rest of next week,” Met Eireann adds.
