The Sunday World and its team of top writers have once again been recognised  for their work, after being nominated in no fewer than four categories in this year’s NewsBrands Ireland Journalism Awards.

Every year the prestigious awards highlight the best in Irish journalism and entry is open to any work published across print, website, online, mobile, video, audio or any in other news delivery format from any NewsBrands Ireland member title.

Among the top contenders is our very own Roy Curtis in the ‘Popular Columnist of the Year’ category for his Mother’s Day piece entitled, ‘There is nothing on this earth - nothing - as gorgeous as a mother’s embrace’.

Roy, of course, is no stranger to the awards, having picked up the ‘Sports Writer (Popular)’ title in 2019.

The 2019, Crime Journalist of the Year, Nicola Tallant, is back again this year with her amazing ‘Cartel’s Fake Van Man’ exclusive that revealed how Kinahan drug trafficker Barry Fowler was snapped driving a bogus ‘DHL’ truck just weeks after being released from jail.

Nicola’s Crime World, a weekly Irish podcast about criminals, drugs and the sins of the underworld, is also up for an award for ‘Podcast of the Year’.

And last but not least, our clever sub-editors have been singled out for ‘Headline of the Year', for the brilliant “Give up yer auld gins” about an Audi-driving priest who was hit with a three-year road ban after he was nabbed by gardai intoxicated behind the wheel.

The winners will be announced at an awards lunch in Dublin’s Mansion House on November 18.
