Summer will make a welcome return next week with warmer temperatures predicted although there will still be some persistent showers.

After what Met Eireann has described as “unseasonably wet and windy” conditions in recent days the reappearance of more summery skies will come as a relief to those looking for a break from the rainy days of the last week.

However, before we get back to sunshine and garden BBQs we will have to endure a few more showers and cool breezes.

It will also be a damp and blustery start to Sunday with continued heavy rain and some further heavy bursts, particularly over the south and some more flooding.

The rain will clear into the Irish Sea by early afternoon and will be followed by sunny spells and scattered blustery showers.

“Showers will be heavy at times with a risk of thunderstorms and hail,” Met Eireann has said.

There will be more scattered thundery showers of rain or hail over Leinster, Munster and south Connacht on Sunday night with showers merging to longer spells of rain for a time in the east by morning.

More heavy showers in Munster and Leinster during Monday morning will ease for a time during the early afternoon although a longer spell of rain will develop in the northwest and move south-eastwards.

Things will start to look up on Tuesday with most areas enjoying “a good deal of dry and bright weather” although a few showers will develop in the afternoon. However it will be a much cloudier day in the southwest with outbreaks of rain at times.

It will remain “on the cloudier side “ on Wednesday with occasionally patchy coastal drizzle. However it will be drier elsewhere with sunny spells at least through early afternoon before becoming cloudier with some showers possible in the northeast

Met Eireann says that indications are that the weather will become warmer towards the end of the week although “there will be further rain at times”.
