Staff at the Kilkenny City service station that sold last week’s massive 12.7 million Lotto jackpot ticket today said they hoped it was a local.

The popular Circle K on the Waterford Road has been confirmed as the winning location where last Wednesday night’s winning Lotto jackpot ticket worth €12,740,043 was sold.

The winning Normal Play ticket was sold on the day of the draw at the busy service station that is located on the outskirts of Kilkenny City.

The National Lottery has also confirmed that the Kilkenny player who scooped the €12,740,043 Lotto jackpot on Wednesday night has made contact and arrangements are being made for their prize to be paid.

A man answering the phone at the service station yesterday, who gave his name as Stefan, from Romania, said he thought the winner wanted to remain anonymous.

“Yes, the ticket was bought in this shop on Wednesday,” he said. “But I think he is anonymous. We have no idea who it is, we don’t have a name. We don’t who it is but we hope it’s a local.”

Stefan said there was still great excitement at the station with “RTE and other media here all day today”.

“I would know quite a few locals,” he added. “Most of the people who come into the shop are regulars.

“There also rumours about us (winning money for selling the winning ticket), but I’m not sure about that.”

Stefan said they sold a lot of Lottery tickets in the shop but he couldn’t remember their last big win.

“I’m not sure about other big winning tickets that were bought here,” he said. “ I think the last one was about €10,000 but that was a few years ago, I’m not sure.”

Stefan added that he himself did not play the Lottery and had “no idea what I’d do if I won. I’d probably go crazy”.
