Social welfare payment dates will be interrupted this weekend as post offices across the country close their doors for the May Bank Holiday.

However, recipients will still receive their payments – just on a different date than usual as Monday, May 2, is a Bank Holiday and Public Holiday in Ireland and all banks and post offices will be closed.

The €140 monthly Children’s Allowance welfare payment is normally paid to all parents or guardians of children under the age of 16 (or 17 if they are still in full-time education) on the first Tuesday of every month. May’s payment is officially due on Tuesday, May 3.

However, with banks and post offices closed on Monday, some recipients could receive their payment as early as Friday April 29, or Saturday April 30.

But an early payment is not a guarantee and may depend on individual banks.

Meanwhile, those who collect their social welfare payments at the post office and are due to receive money on Monday, May 2, will instead be paid on Friday, April 29.

Those due to collect a payment on Tuesday, May 3, should not be affected as the post offices will have reopened.

Additionally, any welfare or state pension payments due to be paid into bank accounts or credit unions on Monday, May 2, should be paid into accounts on Friday, April 29.

After the May Bank Holiday this weekend, there are five more bank holidays remaining in 2022: June, August, October, Christmas Day, and St Stephen's Day.
