The heartbroken sister of the tragic fashion blogger Patrick McLoughney has told his funeral service how he was a “gentle soul” who went out of his way to make the world a kinder place.

Maureen O'Meara was applauded by the congregation who gathered for the funeral mass of the young Tipperary man in Ardcroney Church in Bunratty, Co Clare.

Although he was originally from Nenagh, Patrick, who had been voted Ireland's model of the year in 2017 and Ireland's most stylish man in 2019, was well known in Limerick.

Patrick once worked as a personal shopper for Brown Thomas and he wrote for a number of Irish newspapers including the Irish Independent, and the Limerick Leader.

At his funeral service Maureen told how Patrick had brought “so many people from so many lives together”.

“He wanted to make the world a kinder place and went out of his way by volunteering and always being a shoulder to cry on,” she said.

“He lit up every room he entered, and we were lucky to have such a ray of sunshine in our lives.

"For me, Pat was my brother, my best friend and my confidant. He will be remembered forever in our hearts.

“Some words are Pat’s himself. Try to be a hero in your own life rather than living someone else’s. Believe in yourself. Be kind to others and do the best you can and try to have fun.

"Most importantly, let your loved ones know how much they mean to you while you can. We would like to thank everyone for their kind words, their acts of kindness and their support over the last few hard days. Thank you so much everyone."

Hundreds of messages of sympathy have been paid to Patrick.

Eleanor Whyte, former Miss Galway, led tributes on his RIP.ie page, saying she was “so sorry to hear of Patrick’s passing".

“I had the absolute pleasure of meeting him at the Miss Galway launch in 2020,” she wrote in the condolences section.
