Shane Lowry about to add ‘Offaly publican’ to his long list of achievements
Shane Lowry grew up in Clara, Co Offaly
Shane Lowry is famed as a golfer and GAA fan – and it appears he is now about to add the title of Offaly publican to his list of interests.
Along with established pub proprietor Alan Clancy, they have acquired the Old Bonded Warehouse in Tullamore from Tullamore Dew distillers William Grant & Sons.
The golfer and Mr Clancy bought the landmark building through their firm Emante for an undisclosed sum. A restaurant-bar is expected to be opened at the site.
Local Fine Gael councillor Neil Feighery said the news is “absolutely fantastic”.
“It’s a prime location and Shane is an Offaly man and a wonderful national sports star,” he said. “To see him investing in our county town of Tullamore is absolutely wonderful and who he is teamed up with, they’ve demonstrated their capacity to develop quality offerings.
“I’ve no doubt that anything Shane puts his hand to he brings to success and given his links to golf and to the GAA, and how well he is regarded in Offaly, it’s a huge success to have attracted Shane’s investment here.
“I think it’ll be a great addition to Tullamore. It’s a fantastic location and a key location in our town.
"We’ve invested millions on the greenway network across the county, and we’ll have the greenway linking the Grand Canal from Edenderry back to Loughmore Parklands. This property is right along that route, so it’s a great news story for Tullamore.”
Mr Clancy is from Co Westmeath and already owns a number of bars, hotels and restaurants across the country.
The hotelier said Emante was “delighted” to acquire the Old Bonded Warehouse.
“We look forward to doing our part to boost the local economy in the years ahead and will be sharing more plans about the building next year,” he said.
