Red-dy to go Santa Claus reveals secrets about presents, elves and reindeer as he answers kids' questions

Now, I know it's been awkward and terrible, terrible strange for all the children, especially the children, but they stepped up to the mark, washing their hands, keeping their distance and going into school or doing home school. And they’ve been wonderful,” he said.

Santa has sent a special message to all the kids in Ireland and around the world to reassure them that he will be there on Christmas Eve.

In this video, sent straight to Sunday World, the man in the big red suit said that everyone had done very well in what was a very strange year.

“Now, I just want to say to the children this year, more than anything because I haven't travelled and I haven't got a chance to meet up with a lot of children, that what I'm doing at the moment is, I'm just reading the book and the list.

“Most of the children would be on the list but until I get all the children on the list I can't leave so I want everybody on the list.

“Now, I know it's been awkward and terrible, terrible strange for all the children, especially the children, but they stepped up to the mark, washing their hands, keeping their distance and going into school or doing home school. And they’ve been wonderful,” he said.

“And I must say, I want to thank, I suppose, I want to thank all the teachers and all the children. I want to thank the parents as well, who have been very good and I want to thank anybody out there who had to work during the pandemic because it was very, very strange and again, I just want to be reassure the children that on Christmas Eve I'll be there.”

Santa took a few excellent questions from some little boys and girls, including one from Chloe, who asked which of the reindeers were girls were which were boys.

Santa said that Dancer, Prancer, Comet and Vixen were definitely girls and that you could guess the rest.

“Just think about the names,” Santa hinted.

Isabelle’s question was, “how do you make all the presents?”

“To tell you the truth, I don’t make the presents at all” admitted Santa.

"All the elves make the presents. Now, I would guide them in a way. I would come up with maybe an idea and then, especially in the early days when all the wooden stuff had to be done, I would have done them, but yeah, now the elves make most of the presents.”

A very funny but very interesting question was how many mince pies did Santa eat on Christmas Eve.

“Oh, I hope Mrs Claus is not going to see this,” laughed Santa.

“I would have lots of mince pies. Now, I'd only have a piece of the mince pies. The problem I have with mince pies and cookies is that if I eat them the crumbs all get into my beard so Mrs Claus will check my beard.

"The first thing she does is check my beard so before I leave the house, any house, I have to shake my beard and make sure all the crumbs are gone. I would eat lots of them but only pieces,” he insisted.
