true love Riverdance star Meadhbh Kennedy stunned as boyfriend proposes on stage during show

Just as curtain was about to fall on the matinee performance of Riverdance at London's Apollo theatre, a twist in the plot of the iconic show brought a sell-out crowd to tears.
As the Riverdance cast ran through their finale dances at the end of their 25th Anniversary Tour show, executive producer Padraic Moyles came on stage to make a surprise appearance.
He confirmed that the cast did not know he would make a speech that thanked the crowd for their support, as he hailed London's significance to an Irish export that continues to smash box office records.
Many in attendance at these latest shows in Hammersmith have held on to their tickets for more than two years after postponements due to the pandemic, but the Sunday afternoon crowd were given a rare treat.
After Moyles welcomed Irish dancer Owen Jones, he duly made a romantic speech in front of the crowd and then got down on one knee to propose to lead dancer Meadhbh Kennedy.
"When we met nearly six years ago now, we were both on tour together with another Irish dance show production," Owen said.
"When we first started seeing each other at the end of 2016, it was tough because at the same time, it was when you achieved your lifelong dream of touring with this amazing production.
"I never held you back and I wanted you to achieve your dream, and boy was I right to, because look at you now.
"From that day onwards, we were both cast in different dance shows on two completely different tour schedules. In the years that followed, we would constantly keep missing one another, like passing ships in the night.
"In between tours, we would always make time to see one another because we both more than anything wanted us to work. Most people probably would have given up with the lack of time that they were actually getting to spend together, but we didn’t, we stuck at it."
As he made his proposal he added: "I wanted to make this as special as possible and make this an evening we will not forget, and what says ‘I love you’ more than by declaring it in front of 3000 strangers!"
It was a special moment that was followed by a final rendition of Riverdance's signature dance, with Owen and Meadhbh taking a lead.
Proposals don't come much better than that and our sundayworld.com video captures the moment perfectly.
