Revenue officers have seized almost €427,500 in cash after a Polish man was stopped trying to board a ferry from Rosslare to Spain.

The man, who is aged in his 30s and originally from Poland, was stopped at Rosslare as part of routine profiling and officers discovered the large cash haul with the assistance of detector dog Flynn.

He was stopped while boarding the ferry to Bilbao in UK registered vehicle.

A Revenue spokesperson said: “The cash is suspected to be the proceeds of, or intended for use in, criminal activity and is detained by Revenue in accordance with proceeds of crime legislation.”

Judge John Cheatle granted a three month cash detention order at Wexford District Court today in relation to the haul.

The Polish man has been questioned and investigations are ongoing.
