ONE of Ireland's oldest people, Kitty Byrne, has died at the age of 107.

Mrs Byrne, who was from Cashel, Kilcar, Co Donegal, died peacefully on Thursday.

She worked on her family's farm before marrying Francie Byrne at 21, and the couple went on to have four children, 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Mrs Byrne, who is believed to have been Donegal county's oldest person, never drank or smoked in her 107 years.

She will be buried in her native Kilcar today.
