Two Dublin hospitals have revealed details of Ireland’s newest New Year babies. 

The Coombe Women & Infant's University Hospital New Year Baby award goes to a baby girl, named Kady, who arrived at a healthy 8lbs 7oz at 24 minutes past midnight.

Mum Vanessa and Dad Garry McLaughlin, from Meath welcomed their second baby into the world, after baby Ava was born in the Coombe 19 months ago.

However, Kady was pipped to the post by Brodie McWilliams Brown who was born at the National Maternity Hospital at just four seconds after midnight.

His mother Jennifer McWilliams, from Sallynoggin in Dublin, says she had no idea her baby would be among the first of 2021.

"I had no clue until I had been induced that he would be one of the first,” she said. "We didn't actually think that he was going to be the first."

There were also births at the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise at four minutes past midnight.
