Missing persons charity thank Facebook users who helped locate 3 missing people in last week

2,331 missing person reports have been made to Gardaí so far this year

Irish missing persons charity Missing Persons Helpline Ireland have thanked Facebook users who helped to find three missing people within the last week.

Taking to the social media site, the charity who have over 33,000 followers said that since last weekend three missing people have been located thanks to users providing information.

“A little note from our team,” their gracious post began.

“Over the past 12 months, our Facebook Alerts have generated a huge response from members of the public and helped to raise awareness of the high numbers of people who go missing in this country.

“We would like to acknowledge the increasing response from our followers who come forward with information which we can then pass to the relevant authorities,” they continued.

“Since last weekend, this information has assisted in the location of 3 Missing Persons and brought huge relief to their families.

“Please continue to help us in our work by following and sharing our posts and providing this valuable feedback, without YOUR help we cannot help those affected by this dreadful experience.”

So far in 2022, 1,158 people have been reported as missing to Gardaí.

While the vast majority of people who vanished this year have been located, 23 remain missing.

Last year 3,508 people were reported missing with 9,599 missing person reports filed with An Garda Siochana.

22 of those people remain missing.

At present there are over 810 long term missing persons in Ireland.
