Applications are now open for the Mediahuis Emerging Talent (MET) programme

Mediahuis, Ireland’s leading print and digital media publisher, has launched a search for aspiring journalists to join the company’s Emerging Talent programme.

The brand new scheme offers people from all backgrounds a gateway to a potential career with the Irish Independent, Independent.ie, Sunday Independent, Belfast Telegraph, BelfastTelegraph.co.uk, Sunday World and Sundayworld.com.

There are four places available on the pilot programme, part of Mediahuis Ireland’s commitment to diversity and desire to make a positive contribution to people and society.

So if you believe you have the passion and drive to become a leading journalist, but just haven’t had the chance to get your foot in the door, then the Mediahuis Emerging Talent (MET) programme could be the opportunity for you.

Mediahuis is looking for four trainees to join the MET programme and work with some of the best-known media brands across the island of Ireland.

Incorporating our offices in Dublin, Belfast and across 12 regional newspapers, the programme will be overseen by some of the most experienced journalists in the business.

There are four roles available under the scheme – news reporters based in both Dublin and Belfast, a features writer and video journalist.

Best of all, you don’t need to have a college degree or previous experience to apply. Successful candidates will be given a two-year contract with a broad range of training and on-the-job experience.

Alan Steenson, Editorial Development Executive at Mediahuis, said: “We’re excited to launch our brand new Mediahuis Emerging Talent programme. We want to reflect the diverse voices within modern society by giving an opportunity to people with a passion for journalism, regardless of background or past experience.

“We’ll help you build on that passion as you take your first steps in the world of journalism.”

Edward McCann, Deputy Publisher at Mediahuis, said: “This is an exciting investment in the future. It is critical for any media business to develop talent and it is important also that we do our best to ensure our newsrooms reflect modern society.”

So if you’re a blogger, self-publisher, school or college leaver, career-switcher or are just looking to get back into the workplace, the MET programme could be just what you’re looking for.

Applications for this year’s Mediahuis Emerging Talent programme are now open. You can apply at www.mediahuis.ie/emergingtalent
