Meath crash victim named locally as Declan Sheridan as funeral details announced

The vehicle he was driving collided with a wall on Patrick Street in Trim, Co Meath in the early hours of Monday morning.

He was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where he later passed away.

A garda spokesperson said: "The scene of the collision on Patrick Street remains closed this afternoon as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination of the scene.”

"Gardaí in Trim are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.”

"Any person who was in the vicinity of Patrick Street between 1.30am and 2.00am this morning, including any road users who may have camera footage (including dash cam), is asked to get in touch.”

"Anyone with any information in relation to this incident should contact Trim Garda Station on 046 948 1540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”

"Investigations are ongoing,” they continued adding: “As the car involved in this collision had come to the attention of Gardaí prior to the incident, An Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) have been notified."

Declan’s funeral is set to take place on Friday morning in St. Patrick’s Church at 11.30am with burial afterwards in St. Loman’s Cemetary.

He will repose at his residence on Thursday from 3pm to 8pm.

The Meath native’s death notice reads: “The death has occurred of Declan Sheridan, following a road traffic accident.”

“Declan a beloved husband to Grace and doting father to Charli, Max and Tom.”

“Sadly missed by his wife Grace, daughter Charli, sons Max & Tom, father Henry and mother Rita, sister Amanda and brother Derek, mother-in-law Joan (Kiely), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, work colleagues from Tara Mines, wide circle of friends from The Motorcycle Club, extended family and his many friends.”

One tribute paid to Declan online remembers him as a “true gentleman”.

“Absolutely devastated to hear of Declan's passing. A true gentleman and longtime friend. My sincere heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, many friends & all who have had the privilege of knowing such a kind, caring guy.”

“You will be dearly missed. Heaven only takes the best,” the tribute continued.

A friend who met the Meath man through his passion of motorcycles shared:

“I wish I could’ve repaid you back your awesome hospitality.”

“You, your mates and family were major players in setting me up with a great job and making me feel welcome to Trim, Ireland, when I moved there 20 years ago.”

“To this day I still can’t believe you managed to borrow this Brand new Yamaha R6 for me from some guys I met the night before from Dunshaughlin Motorcycle club, just so we could go for a spin to Galway and back.”

“Condolences to all your family & friends,I’ll never forget ya Mate. Slainte.”

A former colleague from Tara Mines in Navan, Co Meath shared: “Deepest sympathy to all the family on the passing of Declan. A workmate and good friend. May you Rest in Peace.”
