Gardai are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously hurt in a road traffic accident yesterday in Sligo.

The man, a pedestrian in his fifties, was first taken to Sligo University Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

However, he has since been taken to Beaumont Hospital where his condition was described as serious.

The road traffic collision involving a car and the man took place on John Street, Sligo at around 9:24pm last night.

Forensic Collision Investigators are currently technically examining the scene, and have thus closed the road to do so. As such, local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward with information. Additionally, any road users who might have camera footage (including dash-cam) travelling in the area from around 9:30pm to 10pm should provide it to the Gardaí.

Anyone with information can contact the Sligo Garda station on 071 915 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
