'extremely shaken' Man charged after elderly couple attacked by masked man during home invasion in Limerick
GARDAI have charged a man following a terrifying home invasion in Limerick during which an elderly couple were attacked and threatened by a masked man who was armed with a knife.
The couple, who were aged in their 70s, were woken up in their home in the Kennedy Park area of the city around 5.30am last Saturday.
“The man threatened the two occupants of the house and demanded money,” a garda spokesperson said. “The man then assaulted one of the occupants and left the scene with a handbag containing cash. The occupants of the house were extremely shaken by the incident but did not require medical treatment.”
The couple altered gardai as soon as the attacker fled the scene and gardai carried out house-house enquiries, gathered CCTV from the area and carried out technical examinations of the scene.
“Following the enquiries carried out, Gardaí carried out searches in the Southside of Limerick City on October 16, 2020. During the course of these searches Gardaí discovered clothing believed to have been worn by the suspect, a knife, and items stolen from the home.”
Gardai arrested a man aged in his 30s as part of the operation and brought him to Roxboro Road Garda Station where he was charged in connection with the incident.
He is due to appear before Ennis District Court at 5pm today.
