A man has been arrested following the discovery of a body in Phibsborough in Dublin.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was found dead this afternoon in a house in Auburn Street.

Gardai suspect he may have been the victim of an assault.

The arrested man, who is also in his 40s, is currently being question at Mountjoy Garda Station.

A garda spokesman said: "A technical examination of the scene is currently underway by the Garda Technical Bureau.

"The body of the man remains at the scene and the services of the State Pathologist have been requested."

A Garda family liaison officer has been appointed and is in contact with the family of the deceased.

Detectives are not looking for anyone else at present in connection with the violent death.

The Garda Technical Bureau has been called in to conduct a forensic examination at the scene.

Gardaí at Mountjoy are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.
