A man and three teenagers were rushed to hospital last night after a horror road smash in Limerick.

Gardaí said they rushed to the scene of a single road traffic accident at Ardtomin, Askeaton, shortly before 9.30pm.

A spokesperson said: “A man in his 20s and three teenage youths were taken to University Hospital Limerick to be treated for their injuries."

It has been reported that they were the occupants of Volkswagen Passat car which struck a wall while travelling at Boolaglass

Emergency services including gardai and paramedics from the National Ambulance Service attended the scene for several hours along with four units of Limerick Fire and Rescue from Foynes and Rathkeale.

According to the Limerick Leader, the car was extensively damaged in the impact.

It has since been removed from the scene overnight and will be examined further as part of the investigation into what happened.

There was no other vehicle involved and the road fully re-opened in the early hours of this Friday morning.

While details of the injuries sustained have not been disclosed, it's understood that nobody was seriously injured.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact gardaÍ at Rathkeale.
