RIP Man (70s) dies in hospital after road crash in Swinford, Co Mayo

The female passenger aged in her 50s, was transferred to Beaumont Hospital and remains in critical condition.

A man in his 70s has died following a serious road crash in Co Mayo last week.

At 12.25am on Wednesday, February 9, a car and a HGV truck collided on a stretch of the N5 between between Charlestown and Swinford.

Two people who were in the car were seriously injured during the crash.

A male passenger aged in his late 70s, was taken to Mayo University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries and has since passed away.

The female passenger aged in her 50s, was transferred to Beaumont Hospital and remains in critical condition.

Gardaí have renewed an appeal for information in relation to the fatal collision.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

"Any person who was travelling on the N5 between Charlestown and Swinford on Wednesday the 9th February, between midnight and 1.00am and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage, is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Claremorris Garda Station on 094 937 2080, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
