A man in his 60s has died after his car hit a wall in Co Wexford this morning.

It is believed that the driver may have suffered a heart attack behind the wheel, before colliding with a wall in Curracloe village shortly after 10.30 this morning.

Emergency services were rushed to the scene and it is reported that members of the local community leapt to the man’s aid, performing CPR on him until the ambulance arrived.

The man, a resident of Wexford town, was then removed to Wexford General Hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead. A post-mortem will be carried out at a later date.

A garda spokesman confirmed that a full technical examination of the scene was being carried out, however, they are operating on the assumption that he had suffered some kind of medical emergency behind the wheel.

Forensic Collision Investigators are currently examining the scene and the road through Curracloe village is closed and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Curracloe village area between 10:15am and 10:35am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
