Gardai have confirmed that a man in his 50s has died in hospital after he got into difficulties while swimming in the sea off the coast in north Dublin.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene at 11am yesterday on Portrane beach in Co Dublin.

The man was brought to Beaumont Hospital by ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí said they attended an incident that occurred on Portrane Beach, Swords, Co Dublin at approximately 11am yesterday, Monday, 18th October.

“A man aged in his 50s encountered difficulties in the water,” gardai said. “He was conveyed to Beaumont Hospital by ambulance services where he was later pronounced deceased.”
