Gardai have appealed for information after a fatal road traffic incident cost the life of a man in Co Limerick last night.

The victim, who was in his 40s, was treated at the scene of the two-vehicle crash but tragically passed away.

Gardai said that at approximately 9.10pm officers and emergency services were alerted to a two vehicle collision on the M7 Motorway.

The collision involved a car and a lorry that occurred eastbound at Richill, Lisnagary.

The occupant of the car was treated at the scene for injuries but was pronounced dead a short time later. No other injuries are reported.

The deceased has been removed from the scene to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

The crash site has been preserved for examination by Garda forensic collision investigators this morning. The road is closed to traffic and diversions are in place.

Gardaí said they are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward and have also asked road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time, to make it available to investigators.
