Broadcaster Louise McSharry has described the number of people walking through the busy Jervis Street Shopping Centre in Dublin and not wearing masks as “galling”.

The former RTE 2FM host slammed those for not doing the "bare minimum" when it comes to protecting themselves against Covid-19 in a Twitter post.

"Despite my best efforts I needed to come into town this morning, and the AMOUNT of people walking around the Jervis Centre without masks or masks under their chin is staggering,” she wrote.

“Absolute selfishness."

In a follow up tweet, she added: "So many of us are taking antigens every day and avoiding socialising so that we might avoid Omicron this close to Christmas and then these people can’t bother to do the bare minimum. Galling."

Numerous people agreed with her, with one responding: “It’s everywhere. Was in a supermarket in Tipp this morning & there’s was an older lady walking around the bakery with her mask pulled down sipping on her coffee. Then at the deli, there was another lady with mask around her chin & couldn’t care less.”

Another added: “Two teen gals sat behind me on the bus last week talking about how crap the vaccine was... while eating crisps after taking their masks off... some folks are unreal.”

Louise, who recently left 2FM after 11 years at the station, also tweeted that aside from one year when she was working in TV, “this is my first Christmas in nineteen years not working in radio and I hate it.”

In response, fans left numerous messages saying how much she was missed.

“Such a champion of new music,” he wrote. “I miss learning about new artists from you! Hoping you’ll be back on the airwaves again soon.”

“Really miss your show Louise,” another added. “Think they made a huge mistake. Hardly turn on the radio at weekends now. I have no doubt amazing things are ahead for you.”
